When ThoughtData’s Netsense SNMP poller software is installed on a Ubuntu 22.04 server based linux virtual machine (VM), the result is a Netsense SNMP Poller. The VM(s) can be in any private or public cloud environment.
For private cloud, Enterprise IT teams can use the hypervisor that is already in use to create and designate the VM. The hypervisor can be Vmware/Proxmox/Nutanix/OpenStack/HyperV based as purchased by the enterprise IT customer.

Netsense SNMP poller software requires a dedicated VM(virtual machine) for its functions. Performance of virtual Netsense SNMP poller software directly depends on the amount of network devices and their respective network links, which it is monitoring and also resources(CPU, Memory, Storage) available on the virtual machine on which it is installed.  Refer to Table 1 below for virtual Netsense SNMP poller minimum resource requirements for SNMP based network monitoring.

| #Devices Monitored(Routers, Switches, Firewalls etc) | **#VMs** | **Machine Type** | **Compute Requirements** | **OS** |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| upto 500 Devices | 1 | VM | Minimum 4 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 300GB HDD, 1 vNIC | Ubuntu 22.04 Server |
| 500 to 1000 Devices | 1 | VM | Minimum 8 vCPU, 32 GB RAM, 300GB HDD, 1 vNIC | Ubuntu 22.04 Server |
| 2000 Devices | 4 | VM | Minimum 4 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 300GB HDD, 1 vNIC | Ubuntu 22.04 Server |
| 4000 Devices | 8 | VM | Minimum 4 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 300GB HDD, 1 vNIC | Ubuntu 22.04 Server |
| 10000 Devices | 10 | VM | Minimum 8 vCPU, 32 GB RAM, 300GB HDD, 1 vNIC | Ubuntu 22.04 Server |

***Note****: No monitoring data is stored in NetSense SNMP sensor and local storage is used only for OS data processing**.  *

**Other monitoring requirements for virtual Netsense SNMP poller software**

**OS Requirements**

ThoughtData's Netsense SNMP sensor software is only supported on Linux based Ubuntu 22.04 Server OS. Netsense packet sensor can also be supported on other Linux OS like redhat/fedora/suse/centos upon request.

No other external or additional softwares are required for the NetSense SNMP poller software.
