## What is Infrasense

ThoughtData Infrasense solution provides the best in class sensor for IT infrastructure monitoring. This includes various infrastructure related key performance indicators from various devices in your IT network like desktops, laptops, servers, network devices like routers, switches, firewalls, printers etc. All devices physical and virtual are supported including Linux and windows based devices for monitoring. Virtual computing nodes in any public cloud (E.g.: AWS, Azure, GCP etc) are also supported.

Auto discovery process in Infrasense accelerates the deployment and provision of devices for infrastructure monitoring. With simple configuration discover all your devices instantly and provision them for monitoring.

Infrasense supports both passive and active instrumentation techniques depending on your deployment needs. Customers not willing to install any agents on their devices can completely monitor their infrastructure remotely using Infrasense. Cloud customers with micro-services architecture where remote monitoring is not possible or not best suited due to changing identities of computing nodes can choose to opt for Infrasense-Active. Infrasense Active requires an mini software agent which needs to be embedded into the device OS and runs as a service streaming infrastructure KPIs to your Infrasense Sensor.

Infrasense supports SSH(secure shell), SNMP(Simple network management protocol) and WMI(windows management instrumentation) and Synthetic test methods for remote infrastructure monitoring of various devices.

For Linux based systems, SSH is most preferred option. SNMP is an alternate option where SSH is not feasible/not allowed.

For Windows based systems, SNMP is most preferred option. WMI is an alternate option where SNMP is not feasible/not allowed.

For various network devices like routers, switches, wireless access points printers, firewall etc. SNMP is most preferred option.

You can provision devices for monitoring using auto discovery or use manual methods for each device separately.

Infrasense sensor is also required to instrument ThoughtData's application performance(APM) agents. ThoughtData's APM agents report data to Infrasense sensor in your IT network.

Infrasense sensor is also required to instrument ThoughtData's real user monitoring(RUM) agents. ThoughtData's RUM agents report data to Infrasense sensor in your IT network.

Infrasense sensor is also required to instrument ThoughtData's synthetic monitoring tests. synthetic monitor periodically tests various web based URLs for availability, latency and failures and report data to Infrasense sensor in your IT network.
