## Configuring Ping & Traceroute

ThoughtData's Infrasense Sensor comes with built in functionality to initiate various ping & traceroute to URLs of application servers. You can setup tests for any web based URL or Network device for any application. The Infrasense sensor periodically tests the availability and performance of these URLs and reports key performance indicators related to availability , failures and performance.

With Ping & Traceroute tests you can

1. Test front end URLs of your web based applications
2. Test availability and status of your database applications
3. Test external REST API and vendors application services which your application depends on
4. Test performance of your application from different geographical locations


##### Setting up URLs for synthetic tests in Enterprise360

**Pre-requisite:** In order to setup URLs for synthetic tests you should have a pre-provisioned Infrasense sensor in your Enterprise360.

Click "Configuration" in the left pane menu.

Click "Entity Configuration" tab.

Select "Misc" in the Entity Type drop down.

Click add new to add new URL for ping and traceroute test as illustrated below.

Ping & Traceroute Configuration

 Provide configuration details as described in the table below.

| Option/Field | Description |
| Sensor Name | Indicates the name of the Infrasense Sensor to which this URL test will be associated and provisioned. Note that the URL should be reachable from the Infrasense machine for the synthetic tests to function. |
| Profile | Type "**Ping or Traceroute**" for Ping and traceroute testing. |
| URL | Configure the full URL/IP for which you want to setup a ping or traceroute test<br>E.g.: https://www.thoughtdata.com |
| Request Payload |  |
| Content-Type |  |
| Service Name | Any specific service name you want to set up. |
| TLS Verification |  |
| Interval | The frequency of polling for synthetic test. Default 5 minutes  

            **Note**: Changing this value to lower than 5 minutes can increase the load on your Infrasense sensor. This configuration impacts your Infrasense performance and scalability. |
| Username(Optional) | Configure if the URL requires a username for authentication |
| Password(Optional) | Relevant password for the configured username |

 Click save to add the new configuration. 

If you wish to edit/delete any pre configured URL/IP ping and traceroute tests, select the URL, delete or edit configuration for any changes
